Top Ten Characters I Would Want With Me On A Deserted Island

Top Ten: ( in no particular order)

I feel that all of these characters would benefit me in some way if I would ever get stuck on a deserted island with 10 other people. I would definitely want those people to be these people!

Rose Hathaway
Who wouldn't want Rose on their team when they get stranded on a deserted island? She's a kick ass trained fighter and protector.

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvOTUMQJ4kU54PgKMhNTeOwh_-c_X6wzr7ozZFXywKaa7flDO533yaNRx6vFQgc7rz1ItuPEEHRvomUy1FBJGx5ZBgkrKhrA226Si77frjTAtpqh0UPOazMkfXYaibGKtEuiAWUFgceD7D/s1600/team+juliette.jpg
Juliette Ferrars
Now although she can't touch us, I feel that she would be valuable to our defense. Say some unwanted, dangerous people come for whatever reason, we definitely need someone with some unexpected power on our side! The element of surprise is our goal!

 Tessa Gray
Tessa's pretty smart so maybe she could be helpful on this deserted island. I'm assuming that we could use her warlock skills in some way to help the group and ensuring our survival.

 Tris Prior
Tris is definitely someone you could use as an asset to help you out if you get stranded on a deserted island.

Katniss Everdeen
Katniss is the Queen of the Bow and Arrow. For food, she will be very valuable in feeding all of us.

Ze'ev "Z" Kesley (Wolf)
I also feel that Wolf would be helpful in bringing in food and providing that needed man power for possibly building shelter.

 Tobias Eaton (Four)
I'm thinking Four could help Wolf with the essential manly tasks.... as well as just being Four.

Hermione Granger
The ultimate best friend.....plus she's ridiculously smart.....plus she's a wizard.... and she could definitely help with simple spells to cook food or make fires, etc. Maybe even figure out some way to send for help.

 William Herondale
It's Will Herondale....umm...so... I mean ...yeah....okay...

Magnus Bane
Magnus could use his magical warlock skills to possibly bring us help or conjour up us a way to leave the island...or at least to help make life easier on the island. With both he and Hermione we should manage!

Top Ten Tuesday (TTT, #10)

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish.

This week's post is:

Top Ten Favorite TV Shows

1. Vampire Diaries
Vampire Diaries is one of those shows that I started watching on Netflix one day just to see what all the hype was about and now I am completely addicted to watching it. I much prefer to marathon the seasons and episodes on Netflix rather than watching it on tv so I don't have to wait for the next episode. I currently have about 4 episodes left on Netflix and I'm stretching them as long as I can!

2. Orange is the New Black
Along those same lines, I checked out OITNB after all the hype surrounding the first season and I find it to be really addicting. I have 3 episodes left of the second season! :(

3. Ugly Betty
This was a completely random watch for me. I just decided to check it out one day when I was bored and looking for new tv shows to marathon. I was pleasantly surprised at how interesting it was and I'm currently on the 2nd season.

4. New Girl
I LOVE this show! I found it on Netflix earlier this year and watched all the seasons available in a week. I'm impatiently waiting for new episodes to appear on Netflix because this show is sooo funny and entertaining to watch.

5.Orphan Black
I am SOOO addicted to this show. The suspense and action is crazy and keeps you glued to the screen waiting to see what happens next. It is not on Netflix and the 2nd season started in March so I am forced to watch the new episodes as they are aired on tv but it is completely worth it and addicting.

6. Don't Trust the B**** in Apt. 23
This tv show is another one like Ugly Betty that I decided to try out on a whim and I really like it. I also, like some of my other shows, only have a couple more episodes to watch on Netflix so that sucks, but I am still enjoying the show nonetheless.

7. Pretty Little Liars
Of course this is on my list and almost everybody's list haha. I am pretty behind on the seasons and episodes but recently I got back into watching it when I found out what happened in the later seasons. I stopped originally because it was starting to bore me with how long it was taking to find out who A was, but now things have picked up again and I'm interested to see what is in store for the latest season.

8. Freaks & Geeks
This was one of those unlikely discoveries that I made while at school my junior year. My sociology teacher introduced us to it one rainy day to pass the time and everyone, including myself, fell in love with it! We literally asked everyday when we could watch it next because it was just that funny and entertaining to watch.

Literally Just Started These So I Decided to Include Them Since I Needed Two More :)

9. Once
10. Supernatural

Both seem pretty interesting so far so I am excited to continue watching them on Netflix!

Frozen

 Frozen (Heart of Dread, #1)

 Author: Melissa de la Cruz
Series: The Heart of Dread, #1
Pages: 336
Challenge: Goodreads Challenge 2014, 2014 Book Bingo Challenge
Genre: Paranormal/ Fantasy
Acquired: Library
Rating: ★★★

*****

Goodreads Summary:

From New York Times bestselling author Melissa de la Cruz and Michael Johnston comes this remarkable first book in a spellbinding new series about the dawn of a new kind of magic.

Welcome to New Vegas, a city once covered in bling, now blanketed in ice. Like much of the destroyed planet, the place knows only one temperature—freezing. But some things never change. The diamond in the ice desert is still a 24-hour hedonistic playground and nothing keeps the crowds away from the casino floors, never mind the rumors about sinister sorcery in its shadows.

At the heart of this city is Natasha Kestal, a young blackjack dealer looking for a way out. Like many, she's heard of a mythical land simply called “the Blue.” They say it’s a paradise, where the sun still shines and the waters are turquoise. More importantly, it’s a place where Nat won’t be persecuted, even if her darkest secret comes to light.

But passage to the Blue is treacherous, if not impossible, and her only shot is to bet on a ragtag crew of mercenaries led by a cocky runner named Ryan Wesson to take her there. Danger and deceit await on every corner, even as Nat and Wes find themselves inexorably drawn to each other. But can true love survive the lies? Fiery hearts collide in this fantastic tale of the evil men do and the awesome power within us all.

  *****

 My Thoughts:

Frozen follows Nat, a blackjack dealer, with a very interesting past and a couple of dangerous secrets. When she hears of the "the Blue", a place of freedom and safe haven where she won't be persecuted by her secrets when and if they come to light. She soon sets off on a journey with a boy named Wes and his band of misfits who promise to get her to "the Blue".

I really liked Nat's character and her secrets even more. She was easy to connect to with her strong demeanor and determined nature. I also thought the supporting characters were interesting and enjoyable as well. The problems the characters faced were believable for their specific storyline, and I loved the fantasy aspects throughout the novel and the mix of magical elements, pirates, "the Blue", and the other intriguing people and creatures we met along the way.

I enjoyed reading the book and seeing Nat's transformation and evolution from a scared yet determined girl with a huge secret into a key figure with extreme importance to the storyline as the book progressed. Was the book different from what I expect? Yes actually! I was pleasantly surprised with the plot and its originality. I haven't read a book like it and it was refreshing. Really liked the fantasy and magical elements and how they balanced each other out in the novel.

My favorite scene was the ending scene as well as the pirate showdown. I liked learning more about the characters and finding out more about their stories. I least liked the romance between Nat and Wes. I felt that it seemed a little forced and wasn't needed or necessary to the story. I feel that more and more recently authors are including romances in their stories possibly because they feel that there should be one.... they are not always necessary and as a reader I don't mind reading a novel without a romance especially if it isn't needed.

I found the plot to be new and interesting and different from what I've read recently and I think that's why I liked it and really enjoyed reading it. For the most I was kept guessing but some events I could easily pinpoint what was coming before it happened, but otherwise the story didn't bother me much. The ending was pretty good and was a nice wrap to this installment and I will check out the next book when it comes out.

I rate the cover 7/10 and give the story a 4/5 stars. I would recommend this to those looking for a action-packed and different story in the fantasy genre.

Top Ten Tuesday (TTT, #9)

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish.

This week's post is:

Top Ten Blogging/Bookish Confessions

1. I suck at reading my own books. For some reason I neglect them because I feel that I will always have them so I can read them later... or not in my case. My ratio is probably along the lines of reading 1 of my books to every 10 library books I check out.

2.Along those same lines, I check out way more library books than I need or can read at a time. With me being a college student I don't have all the funds to buy ALL OF THE BOOKS... or really any of the books so the library has been my long lost friend recently.

3.Writing reviews.... oh... that's a thing? I completely fail at this. I will read 4 books before I get the urge to write even one review of the ones I have read recently. I have always been more of a talker than a writer so writing reviews tends to get pushed to the side.

4.Classics! I've always been the person to want to read more classics....but the actual reading of the classics hardly ever is attempted. More recent or newly released books with tons of hype get more of my attention.

5.Now with the same theme, "YA Classics". Those books that everyone and their granny has read but I am still on the first book. To name a few... Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, the Uglies, TMI and a couple more.

6.I am a terrible series finisher! I have more than enough series where I only have the last book or last two in a longer series that I have to finish. I think it's my fear of the story not concluding like I would like it to.... Mockingjay...(cough)... Allegiant.... (cough cough). I really don't like to be disappointed or left on a less than perfect note so I tend to not finish to prevent this.

7.I tend to get behind on the reading a book and then going to see the movie adaptation. For example, Perks of Being a Wallflower, TFIOS, and a couple others. It's not that I don't want to see the movies, I just haven't gotten to the book yet and by the time I do the hype and excitement for the book has passed. The one exception where I cheated is with Harry Potter and those movies... opps. :)

8.My reading goals progress is laughable... seriously. Every year I make specific goals that I want to try to complete and every year I seem to get worse at completing them. Goodreads, 2014 Challenges, Personal reading goals. I have a couple ideas to help this like Reading Sprints, Joining book clubs, and possibly buddy reads. Maybe these will give me the motivation I seem to need to actually complete all my challenges this year... also less Netflix could help!

9.I seem to be partial to almost every genre EXCEPT contemporary! The amount of contemporary books I've read can be counted on my hands. It's that bad. But I actually don't mind contemporary books, I just seem to go for the books with more action in them than a contemporary with a cute romance. But I am planning to read more contemporary! Any suggestions?

10.Lastly, I am a booktube/book blogger stalker...not really but kind of. I really need to be more active on the blogs or channels I visit. I tend to read and go or watch and go, and I really should like or comment more often than I do. Leave some of your favorite bloggers/booktubers in the comments and I'll be sure to check them out!

Miss Match (Lauren Holbrook, #1)

 Miss Match (Lauren Holbrook, #1)

 Author: Erynn Mangum
Series: Lauren Holbrook, #1
Pages: 365
Challenge: Goodreads Challenge 2014
Genre: Contemporary
Acquired: Library
Rating: ★★★

*****

Goodreads Summary:

Lauren Holbrook has found her life's calling: matchmaking for the romantically challenged. And with the eclectic cast of characters in her world, there's tons of potential to play "connect the friends."Lauren sets out to introduce Nick, her carefree singles' pastor, to Ruby, her neurotic coworker who plans every second of every day. What could possibly go wrong? Just about everything.
  *****

 My Thoughts:

Miss Match follows Lauren Holbrook on her journeys to wed off all her friends. She, however, wants nothing to do with marriage but prides herself on setting up everyone she knows with their perfect match. Lauren is a cool character who works at a photography studio that her childhood bestfriend Brandon has now acquired from his father. She is very spontaneous and lively as a character and I connected with her the most. I related to her and also shared her love of drinking coffee and devouring virtually almost anything covered in chocolate, which was a bonus!

As far as other interesting characters, Lauren's sisters  as well as Brandon had frequent appearances throughout the book and I liked that aspect because it really put emphasis on the importance of family and friendship within the book.

Also the problems that Lauren faced with setting up some of her friends were realistic and believable with made the story that much more interesting. I also liked the Lauren had a small character change later in the novel as she evaluated her views on life and what was best for her.

Was this different than what I expected?  No not really. I specifically picked this up from the library because I wanted a light  chick-lit book to read so this was exactly what I wanted to read that the moment. My favorite scene was the "pact" that Lauren and Ryan made. It was interesting to see where it went and how it affected the two of them. I liked Lauren's character most as well as her and Brandon's cute friendship. It just goes to show that some friends will always be there with you even as you transition into adulthood. What I liked least was the lack of an interesting or surprising storyline. It was a bit boring in some parts. I didn't expect this book to be full of action and adventure or anything but I still found myself wanting a little more from the story.

With the ending, I thought it fit the book well and was a good conclusion to this book and I look forward to continuing on with the story in the future. Cover gets a 3/10 from me, it's not very eye-catching or appealing and I rate the book 3/5 as a whole. I would recommend this to someone looking for a laid back read and isn't expecting much from the story other than a light, enjoyable read. I think this would be a perfect winter read or even a beach read.
