The DUFF - Kody Keplinger
Seventeen-year-old
Bianca Piper is cynical and loyal, and she doesn’t think she’s the
prettiest of her friends by a long shot. She’s also way too smart to
fall for the charms of man-slut and slimy school hottie Wesley Rush. In
fact, Bianca hates him. And when he nicknames her “the Duff,” she throws
her Coke in his face.
But things aren’t so great at home right now, and Bianca is desperate for a distraction. She ends up kissing Wesley. Worse, she likes it. Eager for escape, Bianca throws herself into a closeted enemies-with-benefits relationship with him.
Until it all goes horribly awry. It turns out Wesley isn’t such a bad listener, and his life is pretty screwed up, too. Suddenly Bianca realizes with absolute horror that she’s falling for the guy she thought she hated more than anyone.

Splintered (Splintered, #1) - A. G. Howard
Alyssa Gardner hears the whispers of bugs and flowers—precisely the affliction that landed her mother in a mental hospital years before. This family curse stretches back to her ancestor Alice Liddell, the real-life inspiration for Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Alyssa might be crazy, but she manages to keep it together. For now.
When her mother’s mental health takes a turn for the worse, Alyssa learns that what she thought was fiction is based in terrifying reality. The real Wonderland is a place far darker and more twisted than Lewis Carroll ever let on. There, Alyssa must pass a series of tests, including draining an ocean of Alice’s tears, waking the slumbering tea party, and subduing a vicious bandersnatch, to fix Alice’s mistakes and save her family. She must also decide whom to trust: Jeb, her gorgeous best friend and secret crush, or the sexy but suspicious Morpheus, her guide through Wonderland, who may have dark motives of his own.

Seraphina (Seraphina, #1) - Rachel Hartman
Four decades of peace have done little to ease the mistrust between humans and dragons in the kingdom of Goredd. Folding themselves into human shape, dragons attend court as ambassadors, and lend their rational, mathematical minds to universities as scholars and teachers. As the treaty's anniversary draws near, however, tensions are high.
Seraphina Dombegh has reason to fear both sides. An unusually gifted musician, she joins the court just as a member of the royal family is murdered—in suspiciously draconian fashion. Seraphina is drawn into the investigation, partnering with the captain of the Queen's Guard, the dangerously perceptive Prince Lucian Kiggs. While they begin to uncover hints of a sinister plot to destroy the peace, Seraphina struggles to protect her own secret, the secret behind her musical gift, one so terrible that its discovery could mean her very life.

Dorothy Must Die (Dorothy Must Die, #1) -Danielle Paige
But when your whole life gets swept up by a tornado - taking you with it - you have no choice but to go along, you know?
Sure, I've read the books. I've seen the movies. I know the song about the rainbow and the happy little bluebirds. But I never expected Oz to look like this. To be a place where Good Witches can't be trusted, Wicked Witches may just be the good guys, and winged monkeys can be executed for acts of rebellion. There's still a yellow brick road - but even that's crumbling.
What happened? Dorothy.
They say she found a way to come back to Oz. They say she seized power and the power went to her head. And now no one is safe.
My name is Amy Gumm - and I'm the other girl from Kansas.
I've been recruited by the Revolutionary Order of the Wicked.
I've been trained to fight.
And I have a mission.

ReplyDeleteYou have some pretty awesome books on your list! I really enjoyed the first two Mara Dyer books; they are very creepy and gripping, perfect if you're looking for a quick read that doesn't fall into the usual light and fluffy summertime contemporary. I hope you enjoy your books!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Glad you liked them so hopefully I'll enjoy them too! Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteI've been meaning to read so many of these, it isn't even funny!!! I especially want to read Seraphina and Red Rising. The Mara Dyer books are great, eerie and with an unreliable narrator. I hope you like them! I didn't enjoy Splintered nearly as much, though, so I hope you like it better than I did...
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm really hoping I enjoy them all too! Thanks for commenting and Happy Reading :)
DeleteI definitely want to read Seraphina too. In fact, I've been wanting to read it ever since it first came out and still haven't gotten there! I plan on borrowing Splintered from the library (at some point) because it sounds like I'll either love it or hate it and I'm not sure which. (Ergo, why I don't want to buy it.) I keep hearing great things about DUFF, too. It sounds like it'll be good. Hope you enjoy your reading and thanks for stopping by my blog!
ReplyDeleteI know me too! and yes I'm also borrowing Splintered from my library's ebook catalog, I started it and then put it down to read something else but from the couple of chapters I read it was interesting. Ok at the start so hopefully it is a good one for me, I liked what I read so far. Hope you enjoy it and No Problem! :)
